Home / Validate CURP Format

Validate the Format of a CURP

Check that a CURP (Mexican personal ID number) is written correctly and see the date of birth and state it encodes. All in your browser.

No sign-up and nothing uploaded to a server: everything happens in your browser. See for yourself.

How to use: Validate CURP Format

  1. Type the 18-character CURP.
  2. See whether the format and check digit are correct.
  3. If something fails, check what you typed.

Frequently asked questions

Does it query RENAPO?

No. It only checks the structure in your browser.

Is my CURP sent anywhere?

No.

Why does it say the digit doesn't match?

It's usually a typing error: a letter or number that was changed.

About this tool

The CURP has 18 characters: 4 letters from the name, the date of birth (YYMMDD), the sex, the state of birth, 3 internal consonants, a homoclave character, and a check digit.

The check digit helps detect typing errors. The tool also shows the date, the sex, and the state it encodes.

It only validates the structure. It doesn't confirm that the CURP exists or who it belongs to: for that, use the official lookup on gob.mx.
