  1. Select your PDF.
  2. Type a password and repeat it. If you want, block printing, copying, or editing.
  3. Click “Protect and download.”

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser, and your files never leave your device.

What if I forget the password?

It can't be recovered. We don't store anything, and the encryption is designed so that nobody can open the file without the password.

Can I protect a PDF that already has a password?

First remove the current password with “Remove PDF Password,” then protect it with the new one.

About this tool

The PDF is encrypted with 256-bit AES, the same type of encryption modern PDF readers use. Without the password, the content can't be read.

Everything happens on your device, so we can't see your document or your password either. For the same reason, we can't recover it if you forget it: keep it somewhere safe.

Printing, copying, and editing restrictions depend on the program that opens the PDF respecting them; the password to open it is the real protection.
